Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by: Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith is the story of Pride and Prejudice by: Jane Austen almost verbatim, except with zombies. It follows the Bennet family, but instead of being a normal family the five daughters are ninjas, trained to kill the zombies that pop up out of the wet ground. Among the zombie killing and sword fighting the love between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth takes root, but will it survive?
My thoughts: At first I was skeptical about this book being any good. It was an alright read, didn't amaze me or anything, but it wasn't completely terrible either. I enjoyed the fact that Grahame-Smith stuck to Jane Austen's original story really closely, but also included his own spin to it. My issues with the story was how much he changed Elizabeth's carefree nature, into a dark and brooding character. It fits with the zombie story line, but I didn't care for that change he made to the original. I'm also not a fan of zombies, and the descriptions of eating brains and other human body parts being taken apart was disgusting and made my stomach turn a few times. I did enjoy the change he made with Charlotte and Mr. Collins' part in the plot, it made them as characters more interesting. The commentary about how stupid the untrained characters are and how Lizzy and Mr. Darcy are rolling their eyes at them was humorous. As I said before this take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice wasn't terrible, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
