This will be a short review on John Green's Paper Towns mainly because it was a huge disappointment. I read and loved The Fault in Our Stars, it was well written with fleshed out characters, the right amount of drama, heart ache, and hope. Shortly after I read it, the movie came out, I watched the movie and I loved it, only time I can say I loved the movie just as much as the book. Then I read Let it Snow and I loved that book too, it was sweet and perfect for the holidays. So naturally I wanted to pick up one of his first books, Looking for Alaska and I was very disappointed, Alaska, the girl not the state, was very selfish and had little to no personality, and the guy was gullible and too sweet for his own good. Going into this book I was skeptical, but I read it anyways and it was just a recycled version of Looking for Alaska, only this time everyone ends up alive and well. The main girl, who is only in the book for a total of twenty pages, is totally selfish and manipulative of Q. And Q is, again, the nice guy who is always there for her even though deep down he knows he shouldn't be. The only good thing to come out of this book was the fact that Q yelled at her and was able to tell her that she was being selfish. This plot was mediocre at best, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I understand it is a YA novel and it isn't written for people in their twenties, but even so, I think even if I was still a teenager it wouldn't have done it for me.
At the end of the day I give it two bookmarks for some of the humor between Q and his friends, and for the road trip at the end, and Q telling her that she is selfish jerk.
Until next time, happy reading. :)
