One Day in December book review

One Day in December by: Josie Silver, is about love at first sight when Laurie and Jack see each other at a bus stop, but as soon as they think to interact with one another Laurie's bus leaves. Laurie spends a year looking for Jack everywhere she goes, convinced that she found the love of her life. Then almost a year later they find each other again, the only problem is Laurie's best friend Sarah found him and is now dating him. The book spans the next ten years of these friends' lives together and how fate has other plans for our lives sometimes.

My thoughts: This is not the light a fluffy story book I thought it was going to be. At one point it had my stomach twisted in knots and my heart pounding due to the fact that these characters had moments of idiocy and how relatable the trials they go through are. This book deals with the dramas of evolving friendships, growing apart from close friends because the characters themselves are growing up and maturing, missing out on multiple opportunities to be with the love of your life, death, loss, divorce, depression, etc., and all of it is wrapped up in a tiny bow.

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a good summer romance that is a little more on the serious side. Who knows, maybe the thought of being in December again will help cool you off on a hot summery day.

AVERT THE EYES IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS BOOK!!!!

In the middle of the book I was getting frustrated with the characters and their life decisions, because Laurie gets married to some guy who has no relevancy to the story. I mean he was nice and all, but he wasn't Jack!!!! I did like how Sarah found out about Laurie's feelings for Jack and that the truth of their kiss behind Sarah's back finally came out. That is one of the morals of the story: Lies don't do anyone any good, because the truth eventually comes out. Ain't that the truth. I was SOOOO HAPPY when Sarah and Luke got together, they just fit perfectly, they had different temperaments, but in their case it flowed naturally, they didn't have to change themselves for one another. Toward the end I was concerned that the grand finale was going to be bitter sweet, but no, Silver gave this story the proper ending for our two main characters, and it was so beautiful how it happened! ^.^
