What the book is about: 13 Clocks by: James Thurber and illustrated by: Marc Simont, is a children's fantasy story about a Duke who freezes the 13 clocks in his castle in order to stop time, so a prince won't come and take his niece, Princess Saralinda, away from him. A prince does come though, regardless of the clocks being frozen, and due the angry Duke orders the Prince to carry out an impossible task before he can win Princess Saralinda's hand. Will he succeed, or will he be sentenced to death, and Saralinda's fate decided forevermore?

The Review:

I thought this story was a fun children's story, with colorful hand drawn pages to go along with it. 13 Clocks is definitely a Children's fairy tale and at times it was difficult to get through each chapter, as an adult. However I did like the task the Duke assigns to the Prince, I thought the freezing the clocks part of the story was unique and clever for the author to add into it, and I did like the quirky aspects of the tale which made it easier to get to the last page of the short book. It was an alright read for an adult, however I can easily see children ages 6-10 enjoying this story.
